Last year I made these pretty stamped tile coasters for a baby shower, and with Mother’s Day coming up this project makes a lovely homemade gift.

These stamped tile coasters are simple, inexpensive, and quick to make. You can pick up everything at a local home improvement store and assemble a set in no time. They make a thoughtful add-on for a food or drink basket for Mom or Grandma — and make one for yourself too; I use mine all the time.

Supplies for stamped tile coasters
4×4 square ceramic tiles — I found an 8-pack for just a few dollars
Satin or gloss indoor latex paint (outdoor paint should work as well)
Rubber-mounted stamp of your choice
Foam brush
Thin adhesive-backed cork pads for the bottom
With these supplies ready, making coasters is straightforward. Choose a rubber stamp and use the foam brush to apply an even coat of latex paint to the stamp. Press the paint-covered stamp carefully and evenly onto the tile, then lift straight up to avoid smudging. Let the paint dry completely before handling.

When the paint is fully dry, apply the thin cork backing pads to the corners or the center of the underside of each tile to protect furniture and keep the coasters from slipping. That’s it — your coasters are ready to use and gift.

These painted tiles hold up well against moisture. I tested one tile with spray polyurethane and it discolored, so I recommend skipping that step. Even without a topcoat, the paint has shown no significant wear despite prolonged contact with water or damp cups.

Now you’re ready to stack and present your stamped tile coasters. They make a thoughtful, handmade gift and a practical item for everyday use. Enjoy creating and sharing them with someone special!
