Crispy Baked Orange Sriracha Chicken with Sticky Glaze

Baked Orange Sriracha ChickenEver since I posted my original orange chicken recipe, it has been a household favorite. That version inspired this baked orange Sriracha chicken—a lighter take on the classic, with bold sweet-tangy-spicy flavors. The sauce blends orange juice, cider vinegar, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce and Sriracha for a bright, balanced kick. Instead of frying, the chicken is baked for a healthier finish while still delivering juicy meat and a glossy, flavorful glaze.

Cooking Tips for Perfectly Baked Chicken

Use boneless, skinless chicken thighs for the best texture and flavor—thighs stay juicier when baked compared with breasts. Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes; if you have more time, refrigerate for a few hours or overnight to deepen the flavor. Preheat your oven to 400°F to ensure even cooking and proper browning. Arrange pieces with space between them on the baking sheet so they roast rather than steam. Brush extra sauce on halfway through baking to build a glossy glaze. Cook until the internal temperature reads 165°F, then let the chicken rest a few minutes before serving to lock in juices.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings

This orange Sriracha chicken works well with steamed white or jasmine rice that soaks up the sauce, or with quinoa for a slightly lighter base. Pair it with steamed or roasted vegetables—broccoli, green beans or a simple stir-fry add color and texture. A crisp cucumber salad with a light vinaigrette or a citrus fruit salad helps balance the heat from the Sriracha. Finish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for a polished presentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use chicken breasts instead of thighs?

You can, but breasts are leaner and can dry out more easily. If you choose breasts, marinate longer and watch the cooking time closely so they stay tender.

What can I substitute for Sriracha?

Any hot sauce or chili paste can replace Sriracha. Adjust the amount to match your preferred heat level, since different sauces vary in spiciness.

How should I store leftovers?

Place leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days. Reheat gently in the oven for best texture, or use the microwave for a quick option.

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Yes. Marinate the chicken and prepare the sauce a day ahead—keep them separate until you’re ready to bake. This saves time and lets flavors meld.

What sides pair well with baked orange Sriracha chicken?

Rice or quinoa are ideal for soaking up the sauce. Add steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for balance. For a different twist, serve with warm flatbread or naan.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1 ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Marinade

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
  • 1 egg white

Sauce

  • cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup chicken stock
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Sriracha
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • In a large bowl, mix 1 tablespoon soy sauce, rice wine and the egg white. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Let stand 10 minutes to marinate.
  • Make the sauce by combining orange juice, chicken stock, cider vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar and Sriracha. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 teaspoon olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat and sauté the garlic about 1 minute. Add the prepared sauce, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes. Stir in the cornstarch slurry until the sauce thickens. Season with salt to taste, remove from heat and set aside.
  • Spread the 1 ½ cups flour in a shallow bowl. Toss the marinated chicken in the flour, shaking off excess.
  • Place the coated chicken pieces on a lightly oiled non-stick baking sheet. Bake 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until cooked through and golden.
  • Toss the baked chicken in the orange Sriracha sauce until well coated. Transfer to a serving plate and garnish as desired.
