Top 10 Recipes of 2018

2018 was a breakthrough year for Downshiftology. Traffic and engagement surged beyond expectations, and video content played a major role in that expansion.

Overall site views climbed to 10 million in 2018, up from 3 million the previous year — more than triple the traffic. The YouTube channel saw remarkable growth, rising from roughly 26,000 subscribers at the start of the year to about 375,000 by year’s end. One of the videos alone reached over 3.3 million views.

Hitting milestones like 100,000 subscribers felt distant at first, and then we surpassed it by a wide margin. While analytics are exciting, what matters most is the supportive, engaged community that formed around the content — your comments, success stories, and friendly interactions are what keep this project going.

So which recipes resonated most? Eggs were the clear winners: tutorials for hard and soft boiled eggs, poached eggs, and deviled eggs landed high on the list. Alongside those were essential, healthy basics like a balsamic reduction, lemon vinaigrette, and guacamole, plus simple, flavorful meals such as Dijon-baked salmon and carne asada.

Meal prep content was also a big hit, especially on Instagram and YouTube. Those posts consistently performed well, and there are more meal prep ideas planned for the future. For now, here are the most viewed new recipes from 2018.
